Week 3

I agree and disagree that empiricism claim that all of our knowledge is based on the use of our senses.  While some things can require actual evidence, other things can be demonstrated via reason. For example, you would know not to touch a fire because you will get burn or not to stick yourself with a knife because you will get cut. We need both senses and experience in order to gain knowledge.

Week 2

Methodological Skepticism is an approach that removes all prior beliefs and knowledge in attempt to find further knowledge, the assumption that any idea that can be doubted is false. Do we ever follow this procedure in our daily lives? Yes and no, it depends on the person and the situation. For example, there’re people I know get into religion they hardly know about, they get into it because someone they know is in it and what ever information they receive from them they go by, instead of doing their own research. Then after further knowledge they believe it’s a lie and the information is not correct. But then there are people will live their lives regardless if it’s wrong or right, true or false.

Week 1 My thoughts on Socrates Philosophy

Society had never experienced anything but the shadows, so they assumed that the shadows were the whole of reality. We believe anything the government put before us and since we don’t have any knowledge we have let to believe the information that we receive is correct. This is why we are in the dark, that’s why they did not want Socrates questioning their people because they will lose control if they see things on different level.
Philosophy is supposed to be liberating by giving you knowledge to feed your soul, so you will be living a clean, free and honest life. It determines your character if you’re going to be foolish or wise.  According to Plato the prisoner came to see that the shadows were only a derivative, lower level of reality compared to the realities he experienced outside the cave, he saw the light.
Socrates believed that there is no life without philosophy, yes he has the right to be pessimistic and so is anyone if they believe in something. He thinks he was put on this earth for a purpose and that’s what he was serving.
